Before I say anything I want everyone to know that this book is based on the truth and actual events。 This book as usual is very well written and the characters feel like family。 My father's family never learned to read or write so the Ryan family history was passed down orally。 My father's oldest brother was born in 1892 and there were 15 children after him。 On any given Sunday at least half of them came with their families to dinner and told their stories。 I started writing them down。Anyhow I Before I say anything I want everyone to know that this book is based on the truth and actual events。 This book as usual is very well written and the characters feel like family。 My father's family never learned to read or write so the Ryan family history was passed down orally。 My father's oldest brother was born in 1892 and there were 15 children after him。 On any given Sunday at least half of them came with their families to dinner and told their stories。 I started writing them down。Anyhow I cried a lot while reading this book because it mirrored my family history。 Everyone who has written reviews has done a great job encapsulating the essence of the story which I should have done。I LOVED THIS SERIES。 TREAT YOURSELF AND BUY THIS SERIES 。。。more

5。0 out of 5 starsFantastic book!Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2021As always, Jean Grainger has written a most interesting and entertaining book。 Continuing the story of Harper, Rose and the rest of the group in Queenstown, Ms。 Grainger weaves an engaging tale while at the same time educating readers about Ireland's struggle for freedom。 One can tell she has poured her heart into her writing。。。her characters are as real to the reader as one's own family。 As book 3 of this series en 5。0 out of 5 starsFantastic book!Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2021As always, Jean Grainger has written a most interesting and entertaining book。 Continuing the story of Harper, Rose and the rest of the group in Queenstown, Ms。 Grainger weaves an engaging tale while at the same time educating readers about Ireland's struggle for freedom。 One can tell she has poured her heart into her writing。。。her characters are as real to the reader as one's own family。 As book 3 of this series ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger, this fan is truly hoping for yet another adventure in the town that was reclaimed and renamed Cobh。 。。。more
Anne Whiting,
As ever, Jean's books excite me and transport me to another time。 I love Harp, Rose, JJ, Danny and the others。I became so involved with their efforts for justice for Ireland。 They were indeed dangerous and treacherous times and this is reflected so well in Jean's writing。 Obviously extremely well researched to the last detail making the characters seem real。 I'm sure that people like the Devlin sisters did exist in reality and were extremely brave and dedicated to the cause they believed in。JJs As ever, Jean's books excite me and transport me to another time。 I love Harp, Rose, JJ, Danny and the others。I became so involved with their efforts for justice for Ireland。 They were indeed dangerous and treacherous times and this is reflected so well in Jean's writing。 Obviously extremely well researched to the last detail making the characters seem real。 I'm sure that people like the Devlin sisters did exist in reality and were extremely brave and dedicated to the cause they believed in。JJs American family, Pat and Kathy welcome them all into their luxurious home in Boston and safety ultimately。 Rose has found happiness with Matt and Harp with jj and I m sure there is more to come。 We can't let Ralph live his life out in luxury can we? There is lots more to tell。 Marianne and Danny will live their life in USA I'm sure but what of the others? Harp, JJ, Rose, Matt? Will they be able to return to their homeland? 。。。more
Nancy L。,
This was a wonderfully engaging novel, set in 1920 India briefly and then mostly in Queenstown/Cobh, Ireland。 There is a portion set in Boston towards the end。 Again, Jean Grainger has drawn astute characters, those involved with the Irish independence organizations described generally in a very sympathetic manner, and the few bad apples (Ralph and Oliver Beckett) also well-drawn in their villainy of thought and action。I knew little about the Irish independence struggles at this time, nor about This was a wonderfully engaging novel, set in 1920 India briefly and then mostly in Queenstown/Cobh, Ireland。 There is a portion set in Boston towards the end。 Again, Jean Grainger has drawn astute characters, those involved with the Irish independence organizations described generally in a very sympathetic manner, and the few bad apples (Ralph and Oliver Beckett) also well-drawn in their villainy of thought and action。I knew little about the Irish independence struggles at this time, nor about the brutality of the British, or the support from the Irish in Boston/America。 I found all of this educational and eye-opening。This was a great read, and I thank Ms。 Grainger sincerely for the advance copy of this engrossing novel。 。。。more
DonnaBeeSparkly,
I really enjoyed this series addition from Jean Grainger。 Her characters speak to my heart, and I always wish that I knew them in real life。 I adore Harp's spirit and fire, and the setting of the book has encouraged me to do some more personal research about The Rising and Michael Collins。 I don't want to give away any plot points, but there was one point in this book that I was so invested in and was so thrown by one of the plot points that I was caught in a trap of wanting to know what happens I really enjoyed this series addition from Jean Grainger。 Her characters speak to my heart, and I always wish that I knew them in real life。 I adore Harp's spirit and fire, and the setting of the book has encouraged me to do some more personal research about The Rising and Michael Collins。 I don't want to give away any plot points, but there was one point in this book that I was so invested in and was so thrown by one of the plot points that I was caught in a trap of wanting to know what happens, but not wanting to read further just in case。。。 This time in Ireland's history must be both difficult for some to read about, but also empowering。 I will enjoy contemplating how I would get revenge on the villain of this book, and look forward to comparing with what this author will choose for the next book :) 。。。more
Jane ,
The Harp and the Rose , book 3 in Jean Grainger’s outstanding Queenstown series takes readers into the brutality of the Irish war for independence。 Harp, now 19 and attending college, continues her secret work with the Devlin sisters while Rose must remain the picture of neutrality to ensure the future of Cliff House。 The story is filled with intrigue and history as author Grainger seamlessly weaves fact into her fiction。 There are characters to root for, characters to hate and characters to pit The Harp and the Rose , book 3 in Jean Grainger’s outstanding Queenstown series takes readers into the brutality of the Irish war for independence。 Harp, now 19 and attending college, continues her secret work with the Devlin sisters while Rose must remain the picture of neutrality to ensure the future of Cliff House。 The story is filled with intrigue and history as author Grainger seamlessly weaves fact into her fiction。 There are characters to root for, characters to hate and characters to pity。 This is a story readers won’t forget。 I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book。 Most highly recommend。 。。。more
